Formulation development and galenic study of cosmetic ingredients

Roka Furadada

Service ID:

EP303S1
Service description

The service aims to support EIC beneficiaries in the galenic study of new cosmetic ingredients. The service is offered in two phases: 1) assessment of the ingredient to evaluate its suitability as a cosmetic ingredient and/or, 2) formulation development of cosmetic prototypes to support the promotion of the ingredient on the market. To do so, galenic development in-house experts will design the specific tests and formulas to be done depending on the nature of the ingredient, the target application and the expected claims. All this information will be discussed in a first meeting with the EIC beneficiary. The scope of work for the first stage will focus on characterising the ingredient in terms of its compatibility with other cosmetic ingredients, sensory profile and overall formulability (ease of incorporation into cosmetic formulations). After completing this first phase, the results will provide valuable insights into the ingredient’s key characteristics and guide its integration into cosmetic formulations. The second phase will focus on the development of prototype formulas (such as serums, shampoos, sunscreens, creams) to showcase the ingredient in a final cosmetic product. The aim of this second phase is to demonstrate the ingredient’s performance and sensory impact in real-world formulations to support its commercial viability and marketing efforts. The beneficiary can choose to perform both phases or just one of them, depending on their specific needs and the degree of maturity of their galenic knowledge on the ingredient.
