Immersive Process and Workspace Layouts Design with Ergonomic Assessment using Virtual Reality

TF-CC provides a specialised service for the design and optimisation of production processes and workspaces using Virtual Reality (VR), including ergonomics and human factors. The service lasts 6–10 weeks, depending on layout complexity and number of design scenarios to be validated.

The service targets companies across manufacturing sectors - from process industry and automotive to electronics assembly and food production - seeking to design or validate layouts for the industrialization of novel products or processes.

The goal is to create ergonomically optimized and operationally efficient layouts by enabling human-centered design decisions to be tested and validated in immersive virtual environments (virtual testbed). TF-CC's infrastructure includes VR hardware, ergonomic and postural assessment tools, and 3D scanning and digital modelling equipment. The service is delivered in four phases:
1. Assessment of the existing or planned layout and workflows.
2. Digital environment development, constructing a precise 1:1 virtual model of the layout, in compliance with international ergonomic and human factors standards.
3. Immersive design validation, where operators and managers experience and evaluate alternative product / process design scenarios.
4. Final design and roadmap preparation, consolidating feedback into a validated, human-centric process and workspace design and a clear implementation roadmap.

Activities include on-site ergonomic assessments, expert consultations, VR modelling, interactive simulation sessions and structured design reviews. The outcome is a VR tool for validated ergonomically compliant process and workspace design, ready for implementation. The service is delivered through a combination of on-site VR sessions and remote collaboration tools, according to client's needs.
