The workshop provides insights from securing the IP basis in research projects to technology management and IP strategy in companies. After a successful completion of the course, participants are able to understand the essentials for exploitation of R&D results. Prerequisites, options, strategies, and tasks involved in technology exploitation are discussed, as well as the legal and institutional frameworks within a research institution and within companies. Learning outcomes: Participants can:
1. explain the prerequisites and special features of intellectual property rights;
2. identify the main steps of patent procedures and explain the structure of a patent;
3. name the essential provisions of a license agreement and explain possible restrictions and remuneration options;
4. explain the purpose of confidentiality agreements and R&D contracts in regard to technology exploitation and indicate the key points of the contracts;
5. list use cases for patent searches, possible search tools, and search strategies and solve simple search tasks; 6. identify key steps in IP management and IP strategy development;
7. explain how to create and implement an IP strategy, and;
8. list essential steps of information search and assessment for early detection of technologies.
